IN LOVING MEMORY OF CORKY

It is hard to believe that Corky has been gone for 11 years. She is the one Scottie that will always be in my thoughts. She was found wandering the streets in a nearby town. The lady that found her could not keep her and placed an ad in the newspaper looking for her owner. I had been looking in the paper for a probate notice for my husband and I saw the ad. I called the woman and I adopted Corky the next day. My free dog cost me over a thousand dollars in the first week. She had ever kind of parasite, heartworms, a urinary tract infections, and an ear infection. She also had the biggest heart, the most loving disposition, and the greatest personality. She never met an animal or a person that she did not like.

I had her for 14.5 years. The vet felt that she was 2 at the time of her rescue. She was a wonderful aunt to the puppies and a great sister to Drew and my two legged children. She lived the longest of all of my Scotties. She is greatly missed.  RIP my sweet girl.corky weinstein 001

4TH OF JULY WISHES

The Scotties do not have a real appreciation for this holiday. The three of them are in various states of fear. The loud noises from firecrackers has been going off for days. It is illegal in Florida, but there is always a way to get around something. you have yo promise that the fireworks will be used to keep birds from destroying crops. I don’t know much about birds, but I don’t think that they are busy looking for crops at late hours of the night. Composure, Thundershirts, and Xanax are part of the remedies for the shaking. In most cases they do not work. The last walk of the night will be even briefer than usual. Sophie is crawling out of the house and urinating 2 steps from the door. She is worse than Sidney. Shelby picks her cues up from the other two. It will be a long night.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

This handsome young dog sired Drew’s litter in 1999. He has a whole bunch of Championships before his name, but we called him Duncan. He was the proud father of Tiffany Sue, Lexie Lou, and Tory. The proud parents and the pups are now romping over the Rainbow Bridge

THROWBACK THURSDAY- GRADUATION DAY

In the spirit of graduation time, I did a memory page of Drew’s many graduations from obedience school at the library recently. Drew was not the most well behaved little girl. She got along with Corky and a small select group of other dogs. She seemed to enjoy obedience school. It gave her exposure to both large and small dogs. Small dogs seemed to be more tolerable for her. Most of the dogs in obedience were larger dogs. We went to a  total of 4 times different sessions of obedience. Her teacher kept  saying that one more group of 8 classes would be helpful. Since she seemed to enjoy them , I kept enrolling her until she became a mother. At the end of each group of classes there was a test and a graduation ceremony. She did improve each time.

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY

10 years ago, Sidney and his two brothers made a trip from West Virginia to Florida. They were going to their new homes. One was dropped off in Orlando and Sidney and his brother Rowdy came to Royal Palm Beach Florida. I have lost touch with the Orlando brother, but Rowdy lives about 4 miles away. We get together every once in a while and visit. We have gone to the dog park together. It got a little harder when Sophie came to live with us.  Rowdy also has a little sister. Lacey just turned 3 recently. Here is to many more Gotcha Days for the boys.

THROWBACK THURSDAY

Corky and I, along with my friend Kathie Comerford and her dog Cornell, made a trip to Sarasota Florida to attend the Highland Games. It must have been 19 years ago. The dogs were dressed in native Scottish tartans. Corky was a little to wide for her kilt. The tams were adorable. Although it was a cold day for Florida, we had a great time
