Shelby and Sophie spend most of the day playing tug of war. They really get into a vigorous game and yesterday it went badly. For some reason the game gets more rigorous when there is company in the house. While Rocky and Michele were visiting yesterday, the two girls decided to engage in their game. Within a few seconds there was a loud squeal. I was not sure what had happened, but Shelby was cowering. I picked her up to check her and saw blood gushing from her mouth. Applying pressure to the bleeding gums worked quickly. She did not seem to be in any pain and  it did not stop her from eating, but she was not acting like herself.

We went to the vet this morning. Shelby will be having dental surgery tomorrow. She will need to have three teeth removed. The constant tug of war had loosened her front upper and lower teeth. I’m not sure if one had fallen out during the game. All toys are now picked up and my bank account will be diminished tomorrow. 008

I know another Scottie this happened too. Indy and Lucy don’t tug with theirs. She runs with them and I make the little ones for her to fetch. So sorry Shelby.

I was told by a Scottie breeder that their teeth have movement in order to catch rats. This was a little too much movement. Update tomorrow.
