DREW- HIWOOD SUNSHINE GIRL

In loving memory of Drew- Hiwood Golden Sunshine Girl May 9, 1996- November 15 2010. Drew came to us after being taken back b her breeder, who felt that she was not in a good situation. Her previous owner had a little boy that tormented Drew and the breeder wanted her to be in a stable. household. I had been looking for a companion for Corky. Corky spent the whole day looking out the window waiting for her pet friends to go by the house. She was happiest when there was another dog present. The opportunity to get Drew was presented to me and I jumped at the chance. She came by plane from West Virginia at the end of March in 1997. The first two days were a little rocky because Drew was not used to being in the house. She quickly settled into the routine and Corky and Drew became the best of friends. Drew went back to West Virginia to be bred in 1999 and she became the mother of Lexie Lou, Tiffany Sue, and Tory. She was the best mother to the pups. Although Drew suffered from Cushings at the age of 9, she lived to be 14.5 years of age and had a 001002very good life.

That would be one word to describe Drew. There was never a disagreement in the house between the two girls and the puppies.

Mom said that her first schnauzer lived from ages 5-11 with Cushings, and was blind from a cushings tumor that whole time. She did great though, and had a good life, too. Drew was as blessed to get you as you were to get her.

So many people get so uptight when they get a diagnosis of Cushings. It is so treatable and the dogs have a great quality of life with the medication. Thanks for the kind words.

She still is a wonderful breeder. She must be in her late 80’s by now. I speak to her a lot over the year. She is the breeder of Sidney and is part of the Sophie group of Scotties too.

I remember reading about the Addison’s. Drew had too much medication at one point and it spiraled into Addisons. It was quickly reversed.
